Are You Company A or Company B?

Industrial Ice CleatsDriving to work one day, I was thinking about a customer of mine who has been buying our shoe ice cleats and winter traction aids for over 15 years. (Several years ago, I was honored to be invited to their corporate safety meeting to talk about their slip and fall prevention program.)

When I think about this company, I appreciate how they continue to promote our ice traction slip-ons before and during winter. They always remind employees about the current, approved shoe ice cleats and safety footwear available. And corporate EHS always educates their employees about the benefits of wearing their ice cleats and other traction aids, in helping to prevent slip and fall accidents.

It’s interesting to me how some of our clients have been buying the same ice cleat for many years, while others are always looking to see if there’s anything better out there.

My takeaway is this...

The companies I help to prevent slip and fall accidents can be broken down into two categories:

  1. If the current ice cleats work, why try anything else?
These companies may eliminate the expense of additional man hours spent hunting for new items, but could be missing out on something that might be more effective for them.

  2. Let’s always be on the lookout for the latest and greatest in pursuit of the perfect ice cleats.
These companies, who are constantly on the prowl, will stay up on technology, but could be sending a mixed message to their crews by always modifying the traction aids available to prevent slip and falls.

Which of these sounds like your company? Do you think one approach is better – and why? I’d love to hear your thoughts at bill@winterwalking.com.
